Leading economist and our Independent Board Chair, Cameron Bagrie is taking time to connect with road freight operators across the country. These informal, on-the-go catch-ups are a great opportunity for members to share what’s happening on the ground and for Cam to offer some real-world economic insight in return.

In Ashburton earlier this week, Cam met with six local operators representing a wide range of businesses, such as general freight, refrigerated transport, earthmoving contracting, bulk cartage and grain drying/storage.

The conversation was wide-ranging but focused heavily on the current economic outlook – particularly interest rates and the shifting expectations of the modern generation entering the workforce. Many of those present have managed through periods of high interest rates before and have built their businesses over decades, offering a grounded perspective on current conditions.
