Grant Thornton Transport Cost Index
Prepared quarterly by Grant Thornton New Zealand, the Cost Index tracks real-world cost shifts across six key areas: fuel, Road User Charges (RUCs), wages and salaries, depreciation and interest, overheads, and repairs and maintenance. This detailed approach ensures the Index is not a “one size fits all” price guide, but a transparent and independent reference that operators can apply in proportions relevant to their own businesses.
Exclusively owned by Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand, the Index supports operators in tough conversations and negotiations with clients. Underpinned by a representative survey of transport businesses undertaken every five years by Waikato University, it reflects real market conditions and provides a credible benchmark for the industry.
