Straight-Talking Economics at Invercargill Breakfast Meeting

August 12, 2026 | Transporting New Zealand

On Friday 7 August a Transporting New Zealand breakfast meeting was held at the Industry Café in Avenal, Invercargill, with economist Cameron Bagrie as a guest speaker.

Cam once again gave the group his usual straight-shooting and no-nonsense assessment of the New Zealand economy, providing an interesting insight into the current economic environment and what it means for businesses and the wider transport sector.

We were also pleased to have Gavin Hawke and Scott Williamson from UDC Finance join us who very kindly sponsored the cost of breakfast and coffees for everyone attending, and we greatly appreciate their support.

Those attending included Rex and Jolene Brown from Waikaka Transport, Peter Corcoran, Grant and Janine Loader from Kings Log Transport, and Brett Hamilton from Road Transport Logistics.

It was a relaxed and informative morning, providing a great opportunity to catch up with colleagues, share views and hear Cam’s perspective on the economic outlook.
