The transcript of the Friday Video Blog.

Hi, I’m Dom Kalasih, chief executive of Transporting New Zealand.

In the face of global economic uncertainty and unprecedented trade volatility, I know that Transporting New Zealand needs to be delivering for our members, and the wider industry.

If we can move freight smarter, and more efficiently, then our industry, and our members, can play a key role in the productivity of the nation.

The key to unlocking that opportunity is our policy and advocacy work.

While there’s a lot more to do, from our work over the last 12 months we are starting to see a shift in how regulators are thinking differently.

They’re definitely thinking more about productivity, and these are just a few examples.

  • NZTA has heeded our advice and no longer intends to add a new set of traffic lights on Dunedin’s inner-city motorway.
  • WorkSafe has proposed a single code of practice, including the legal requirements and what good practice is for all supply chain players involved in forestry and harvesting operations. This is something we’ve been pushing hard for.
  • NZTA is rolling back some of its proposed wire rope median installations.
  • We’re also taking a stronger evidence-based approach and ensuring we know what matters to our members and the industry.
  • We’ve just completed the National Road Freight Survey that’s the most comprehensive industry snapshot completed in over 10 years.

Over the next few months you’ll receive regular updates like this from our team and the Board.

These are really exciting times!

I’m really looking forward to the challenges and making sure Transporting New Zealand does best for all its members. Thanks very much.
