Supporting initiatives that benefit New Zealand’s road freight industry

The Transporting New Zealand Endowment Committee provides funding for projects and initiatives that protect, promote or advance New Zealand’s road freight industry.

Funding applications are open to Transporting New Zealand members and Sector Groups, including applications made by members on behalf of other recipients.

2026 Grant Round

Applications open: 10 August 2026
Applications close: 29 August 2026


Endowment Committee consideration: 9 September 2026.

Funding may be available for projects and initiatives that benefit the road freight industry, including:

  • Advocacy and industry representation
  • Safety initiatives
  • Environmental or innovation projects
  • Technical research and policy work
  • Industry information and communications
  • Education, training and professional development
  • Industry-relevant scholarships
  • Resources for members, their employees and supply chain partners

Previous grants have supported initiatives including young drivers attending Street Smart driver education courses and the development of industry good practice guidance.

Funding is not available for:

  • Political parties
  • Activities unrelated to the road freight industry
  • Costs that have already been incurred
  • Debt repayment or reduction
  • Transporting New Zealand staff costs, salaries or general operating expenses

Applicants should be ready to provide:

  • The amount of funding requested
  • The purpose of the project or initiative
  • The total project cost and supporting budget or quotes
  • How the project will benefit or advance the road freight industry
  • When the funding is required
  • When the funding will be spent
  • Details of any other funding received or applied for
  • The recipient’s bank account details

Applications are considered by the Endowment Committee. Funding decisions are at the Committee’s discretion, with applications considered fairly, reasonably and in good faith. The Committee may request further information where required.

Successful recipients are also required to report back following completion of their project, including how the funding was used and the outcomes achieved
