Wellbeing & Business: Working in the trucking industry can be rewarding, but it also comes with its own challenges and pressures. We’re committed to supporting transport operators, weather you’re an employer, employee, or owner-operator.
Emergency health and wellness support
If you or someone you know is at risk of immediate harm:
- Call 111 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department or after hours.
- Phone your local DHB Mental Health Crisis Team (CATT Team), or ring Healthline at 0800 611 116.
If you’re feeling mentally unwell (including symptoms of anxiety and depression):
- A good starting point is your GP (family doctor) who is trained to assess, treat and manage mental health issues. They can also refer you to other services if required.
- You can speak with a trained counsellor by free calling or texting 1737 (the national mental health & addictions helpline) for free and confidential support.
Workplace or industry related health and wellness issues
If you’re experiencing work related issues like stress, burnout, financial or other business pressures:
- Contact one of our four regional sector advisors for a friendly, confidential discussion about what’s going on. This confidential service is open to both members and non-members.
- If you have a concern about an unsafe or unhealthy work situation that could lead to a death or serious injury or illness, then you can contact WorkSafe and raise your concerns.
- Members can also access free, no-obligation consultations with leading health and safety and business service providers (Safer Business Solutions and Redvespa). You can contact our Membership Manager Fiona McDonagh with any questions.
- Our members can receive a free 15 minute legal consultation from Wynn Williams, a leading national law firm. This can help nip issues in the bud and keep costs to a minimum. Call 03 379 7622 or email amanda.douglas@wynnwilliams.co.nz with the subject line: Transporting NZ Ask a Lawyer.
