Who we are
Ia Ara Aotearoa is a national industry association representing 1,200 individual road freight transport companies (a combined fleet of 14,000 vehicles) that are committed to delivering all types of goods to ensure the comfort, health and wellbeing of New Zealanders, come what may.
From courier companies and owner/drivers to large fleet operators and the companies that work alongside the freight transport industry, our representation is wide-ranging and responsive to the needs of our members.

Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand launched its Green Compact with Transport Minister Michael Wood and our partners John Staples at Bridgestone and Richard Briggs of EECA (Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority)
Our Green Compact sets the principles of decarbonisation for the road transport industry. This is a vital step for our industry, its customers, supplies, manufacturers and the public.

Road transport industry sets bold goal of 1000 new applicants
The shortage of professional drivers is a worldwide problem and New Zealand is not immune, with some estimates that the country needs thousands of new drivers. And it is not just drivers, it is also people working in logistics and support roles. An aging workforce compounds the problem.
However, New Zealand’s road transport industry is making good progress to encourage more people to join by undertaking professional qualifications. Te ara ki tua Road to success is an initiative set up in 2021 by three organisations: Ia Ara Aotearoa Transporting New Zealand, National Road Carriers, and the NZ Trucking Association.
