Auckland Freight Forum Update – Port of Auckland and Stanley St CVSC
The latest freight forum meeting was well attended by a number of regional stakeholders including Representatives from Auckland Transport, Auckland Airport, Ports of Auckland, Kiwirail, as well as Industry representatives.
Key points and issues raised
- Some issues reported with late amendments and changes to planned maintenance work programme has caused some issues for Heavy Freight especially over-dimension loads and particularly heavy haul, with recent disruptive weather events impacting planned works – changes not updated.
- AT is looking at a number of optimisation projects to assist with the movement of Freight across the network. Including a Review of the Auckland Strategic Freight Network. implementation of additional Special Vehicle Lanes on Key Routes t for T2, T3 and allowing truck access or Freight Only Lanes where applicable.
- There is also a project underway to look at Prioritising Freight movements at Key Intersections on Freight routes and in the Central Business District, using a mix of AI Smart camera technology and Open API data sharing of GPS data with key freight providers. Industry is reaching out to interested parties willing to participate in the trial.
Ports of Auckland
A number of changes are planned within the Port Precinct over the next few years which will have a significant impact on the immediate local area and general operations. With the overall footprint of the port being reduced over time the challenge is to be able to service the increasingly larger cargo and cruise vessels that ply the seas. See the attached 2030 Master plan map.
A lot of the works are being sought under the Fast Track Approvals Bill.
Changes will include extensions to Bledisloe North Wharf and Fergusson North Berth, as well as an additional building being constructed for Vehicles coming off the larger Roll On Roll Off vessels. This will have significant impacts in the local area as there will be significantly more traffic involved in the Demolition and Construction side as well as the normal daily port activities.
Commercial Vehicle Sites update
CVSP site Stanley Street is all set up with the Weigh In Motion Scales in place as detailed below (the Bombay site will be operational as well in 2026).
Transport Operators are reminded that they should be following the approved routes to the Port to access the required gates, for their destination or pick up point.
Note signage is being installed on Orakei Rd and Ascot Ave advising Heavy vehicles to prevent Heavy vehicles use of these routes.
