Transporting New Zealand compiles port tariffs
In response to member feedback, our website now has a combined list of Port Tariffs and VBS charges.
Port of Tauranga announces new gate fee
The $8 (+GST) charge will go ahead from 1 July 2025, despite vocal opposition from Transporting New Zealand led by our Ports & Intermodal Sector Group who pointed out cargo exporters and importers would prefer to be charged directly. TNZ questioned the justification for the charges in Transport Talk.
Sector Group members have also flagged the need for WIFI and power improvements at the container yards with management.
Port of Auckland eyes further road freight revenue
Port of Auckland vehicle booking fees have increased 1525% since March 2022, reports NZ Herald.
Transporting New Zealand and New Zealand Council of Cargo Owners continue to emphasise these fee increases massively outpace productivity improvements, including recently at Select Committee.
Ports update in Transporting News
The March and February editions of Transporting News had updates from ports around the country about their plans for 2025.
Lessons from HSWA prosecution of Port CEO
Transporting New Zealand has joined the Business Leaders Health and Safety Forum in recommending all transport senior leaders read the judgment in Maritime NZ v Tony Gibson.
It is the first time the CEO of a major New Zealand company has been found guilty under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 (HSWA). The judgment outlines the scope of officer obligations under HSWA.
Transporting New Zealand has also produced two educational videos with Gibson Sheat lawyers following two fatal incidents involving transport workplaces (Salters Cartage & STL Linehaul).
Deloitte releases 2025 Ports & Freight Yearbook
The Yearbook provides a snapshot of domestic port and freight activity, including some helpful road metrics taken from MoT and StatsNZ data.
Port Health and Safety Leadership Group
Transporting New Zealand will attend Group’s May meeting, that includes port executives, unions, the Port Industry Association and Maritime NZ. Priorities will include chain of responsibility improvements and port weighing facilities.
Transporting New Zealand appreciates the ongoing direction and feedback of our Ports & Intermodal Sector Member Leads.
– Billy Clemens. Head of Policy & Advocacy and Ports and Intermodal Sector Coordinator.
